William C. Haines served as the meteorologist during three of Byrd’s Antarctic expeditions. Haines, a native Ohioan and graduate of McConnesville High School, was employed by the St. Louis Weather Bureau when recruited to join Byrd's team. His meteorologic expertise was instrumental to the success of the mission because his forecasts ensured the safety of the polar researchers. This collection includes personal information on Haines, and several letters describing his role in various expeditions, and his obituary.
