Description:
In 1864, Abraham Lincoln was reelected as President of the United States; however, the country was in the midst of the Civil War, and his election was valid only in the Northern Union states, as the South had seceded and formed their own nation - the Confederate States of America. The war had taken its toll on the country, and on Lincoln. The cartoonist in this depiction has shown him as literally stretched by the events.
